I’m Nikki da Costa and I specialise in providing support to the Public Affairs industry.
I believe strongly in the value of public affairs, and that it is a highly rewarding and stimulating career. I also know it can be challenging and demanding, and even the very best of us need support.
During my time in Westminster as a Special Adviser, as Head of Government relations in an FTSE 100 company and finally helping build one of the fastest growing agencies in the UK, I saw how difficult it was to access any kind of external training and mentoring specific to the Public affairs sector.
In 2015 I set out to address that, training with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and qualifying with distinction as a coach with the Coaching Academy.
My aim is to help others achieve success with less struggle – to offer tailored support from a practicing industry-respected senior consultant, focused on business objectives.
I have worked with businesses ranging from agile startups, such as TransferWise, to multinational corporations such as Visa Europe, helping them to develop public affairs strategies that have delivered tangible results.
As a senior in-house practitioner, previously at AQA and Serco, I understand what it is like to take responsibility for delivering key business objectives, develop a function and build strong supportive internal relationships to achieve results.
From my time as Managing Director of one of the fastest growing public affairs agencies, I understand the business of public affairs and the challenge of developing people. I was lucky enough to be recognised for this work in 2013 by Management Today as one of the UK’s top “35 women under 35”.
Having served as a Special Adviser to the Conservative Chief Whip, I have a deep understanding of the ways of working in Westminster and Whitehall, with particular expertise in legislative and regulatory matters.
